DETROIT, KOMPAS.com —Perusahaan otomotif Jepang, Nissan Motor Company, mengumumkan penarikan kembali untuk perbaikan lebih dari 79.000 kendaraan yang terjual di pasar Amerika Serikat untuk memastikan apakah ada kebocoran bahan bakar.
Seperti dilaporkan kantor berita AP, Senin (27/2/2012), Nissan memastikan mobil-mobil yang ditarik kembali itu adalah Nissan Juke yang merupakan mobil sport utilities vehicle (SUV) jenis kecil, Nissan Infiniti QX yang merupakan jenis SUV besar, dan Infiniti M jenis sedan. Mobil-mobil ini keluaran 5 Oktober 2009 hingga 27 Desember 2011.
Badan Keselamatan Lalu Lintas Jalan Raya Nasional menegaskan dalam situs web mereka, sensor tekanan bahan bakar pada kendaraan-kendaraan tadi kemungkinan tidak cukup ketat. Hal ini bisa menyebabkan bahan bakarnya bocor dan menimbulkan kebakaran.
Pihak Nissan menegaskan, sejauh ini belum ada laporan telah terjadi kebakaran akibat kebocoran bahan bakar pada mobil-mobil Nissan yang dimaksud.
Penarikan kembali mobil-mobil Nissan itu baru diumumkan di Amerika Serikat sekalipun Nissan Juke dilaporkan juga dijual di Asia, termasuk Indonesia. Dealer mobil Nissan akan memperbaiki mobil-mobil itu dengan memperketat sensor bahan bakar atau menggantikan perekat. Semuanya gratis karena semata untuk mengatasi problema yang ada.
Penarikan kembali untuk perbaikan ini akan dimulai pada 19 Maret 2012.

Kementerian Komunikasi dan Informatika (Kominfo) akan kembali memanggil Research In Motion (RIM) untuk menagih janji-janji yang telah dilontarkan produsen BlackBerry itu kepada pemerintah.

Kepala Humas dan Pusat Informasi Kementerian Kominfo Gatot S. Dewa Broto menjelaskan, setidaknya ada tiga hal yang akan ditagih oleh Kominfo dalam pertemuannya dengan RIM yang dijadwalkan bakal digelar sebelum Lebaran tersebut.

Tiga hal tersebut yakni terkait rencana pembangunan server BlackBerry di Indonesia, fasilitasi akses lawful interception (penyadapan) bagi penegak hukum, serta komitmen RIM untuk membangun sekitar 40 layanan purna jual alias BlackBerry Authorized Customer Care Center.

"Jadi tiga janji itu yang akan kita tagih kepada RIM. Memang deadline-nya tidak sekarang, melainkan hingga akhir tahun. Tapi kita juga ingin tahu update pelaksanaannya," tukas Gatot.

Kominfo, dikatakannya, tidak mau jika dianggap hanya 'gertak sambal' kepada RIM sehingga akhirnya disalahkan publik lantaran janji-janji kosong perusahaan asal Kanada yang akan membuka pabrik BlackBerry di Malaysia itu.

Sony Corp. meminta maaf atas kelalaian mereka dalam pengamanan data pribadi konsumen. Sony berjanji akan mengaktifkan kembali jaringan games online PlayStation-nya, setelah meningkatkan standar keamanan. "Kembalinya sebagian layanan mungkin akan terjadi dalam seminggu," ujar Kazuo Hirai, Executive Deputy President Sony yang bertanggungjawab terhadap produk dan layanan jaringan.

Langkah ini harus dilakukan karena pada 20 April lalu, Sony menonaktifkan jaringan PlayStation dan layanan musik digital Qriocity dengan alasan terjadi gangguan eksternal. Saat itu, ternyata, jaringan PlayStation dan Qriocity tengah diobrak-abrik peretas dan mengakibatkan jebolnya 77 juta indentitas pengguna kedua jaringan itu, seperti alamat e-mail, tanggal lahir dan password.

Hirai dan dua pejabat lainnya pun membungkuk dan meminta maaf pada konferensi pers kemarin. "Kami sangat menyesal karena menyebabkan masalah dan kekhawatiran para pelanggan kami," kata Hirai. Jebolnya data pelanggan itu juga memungkinkan peretas memiliki informasi kartu kredit mereka.

Hirai berujar, Sony telah bekerjasama dengan pihak berwenang, termasuk Biro Investigasi Federal untuk mengejar para penyusup itu.

Sony menghadapi gugatan atas keterlambatan informasi tentang adanya kasus pencurian data yang mungkin dilakukan hacker. Perusahaan ini baru mengingatkan pelanggan pada 26 April atau enam hari setelah penutupan jaringan PS dan streaming musik Qriocity. Gugatan ini diajukan 27 April di pengadilan federal San Francisco, AS.

A new open source project allows computer users to add surreptitious location tracking to their systems. Windows, Mac and Linux versions are available.

Adeona, from researchers at the University of Washington and the University of California, San Diego, anonymously sends data to servers on a free storage system called OpenDHT. The data, which is encrypted, includes IP addresses, information about neighboring routers, and so forth. If your notebook ever gets stolen you can log into the system from another computer, access the data and notify authorities with it. Working with ISPs they should be able to locate it. The Mac version also uses a freeware program called isightcapture to take a picture of whoever is using the system.

Commercial versions of such products, such as CompuTrace's LoJack for Laptops, have been available for a long time. Typically they also offer a remote wiping function, which would seem to be a major advantage, at least for businesses.

It's not clear whether the location tracking information in the commercial products is any different from this free version. The ultimate version would use GPS hardware, but this is not typically included in notebook computers. Perhaps it should be.

Has the battle to create a dream product to link online digital media to the TV quietly been won? Despite competition from just about everyone—Vudu, Apple, TiVo, Xbox, and more—humble Roku, which released its Netflix Player set-top box barely over a month ago (making it a distant latecomer to the game), sold out of its first shipment in three weeks. Demand is so strong that the company is air-freighting new units to the U.S. in order to keep up.

Almost thrown off as an aside in a Forbes story about Netflix's online ambitions, Roku VP Tim Twerdahl mentions that later this year the $99 box will be upgraded to stream content from other providers aside from Netflix. (The upgrade will be a simple software download that will enhance existing boxes.) That would make it the first major set-top box to hook into multiple services and could turn what is already a very good product into a category killer.

Even without the extra features, the Roku box is already a hit, and I think it's because it's embraced the idea of simplicity. There's nothing complicated or even sophisticated about the Netflix Player. There's no display on the box, and the remote control is reminiscent of the original Zenith "clicker." Next to famously "simple" products like TiVo and the Apple TV, the Roku player makes them look like baffling mainframe computers in comparison. Anyone who can plug in their television should have no problem setting up the device.

Naturally, the price is another huge boon for the product. At $99, it's cheaper than dinner and a movie. Since the service is free if you already have a Netflix account, what possible objections could anyone have to hooking one up?

Add in more streaming options and the Roku gets even better. Roku teases us by not mentioning exactly what services it will link to, though; they are described only as "other 'big name' providers." My only concern is that the box needs to retain its simple nature. If I have to input a credit card number using a remote with no number buttons on it, I'll unplug it in disgust.

Meanwhile, Netflix is wasting time with other set-top box providers (including Microsoft's Xbox), all of which is just a distraction that keeps it from adding to its 10,000-movie library available for streaming. Does anyone really watch movies on the Xbox 360 as it is? The fan is so loud it drowns out the dialogue.

Founder Steve Verona says that the company protects itself against future gas price increases through taking positions in the stock market. SEATTLE - For a decade it appeared there was no such thing as too many Starbucks for U.S. coffee drinkers, whose willingness to buy its $4 lattes and dark drip brews rationalized a second green-and-white mermaid awning just down the street — and sometimes even a third.

But in a sign that those days are over, Starbucks Corp. announced Tuesday it will close 600 company-operated stores in the next year as the faltering U.S. economy hastened the pain caused by the company's own rapid expansion.

Starbucks shares, which have been falling steadily for nearly two years, jumped 72 cents, or 4.6 percent, in extended trading after the announcement. They had lost 12 cents to close Tuesday at $15.62.

Seattle-based Starbucks did not say which stores will be closed, only that they are spread throughout the country. But it did say 70 percent of those slated for closure had opened after the start of 2006.

To put it another way, Starbucks is closing 19 percent of all U.S. company-operated stores that opened in the last two years, Chief Financial Officer Pete Bocian said during a conference call.

About 12,000 workers, or 7 percent of Starbucks' global work force, will be affected by the closings, which are expected to take place between late July and the middle of 2009, spokeswoman Valerie O'Neil said.

O'Neil said most employees will be moved to nearby stores, but she did not know exactly how many jobs will be lost. Starbucks estimated $8 million in severance costs.

In total, the company forecast up to $348 million in charges related to the closures, $200 million to be booked in the fiscal third quarter ended June 30. Starbucks reports third-quarter results at the end of July.

The company had previously planned to shut 100 stores. The 500 more that will be closed had been on an internal watch list for some time. They were not profitable, not expected to be profitable in the foreseeable future, and the "vast majority" had been opened near an existing company-operated Starbucks, Bocian said.

Some analysts had wondered whether Starbucks' explosive growth in the U.S. would come back to haunt it as the market became saturated.

Eee PC 904 sendiri merupakan tanggapan Asus terhadap permintaan konsumen atas opsi keyboard yang lebih lega atau chassis yang lebih kecil. Menurut informasi,Eee PC 904 akan datang dengan harddisk, bukan SSD (solid state disk), sehingga namanya pun ditambahi akhiran HD, alias Eee PC 904 HD.

Detail lain tentang Asus Eee PC 904 HD belum diketahui, termasuk tentang apakah prosesornya akan menggunakan Intel Atom. Yang jelas notebook ini akan datang dalam casing sama besar dengan milik Eee PC 1000, tetapi layarnya sama dengan Eee PC 900/901, yakni 8,9 inci. Dengan kata lain hanya ruang untuk keyboard-nya yang lebih luas.

Jadi kapan Asus Eee PC 904 HD akan bisa kita nikmati? Menurut Juliana Chen (Marketing Manager, Southeast Asia Sales and Marketing Dept., AP and MEA Sales Group, Asus Technology Pte Ltd), di tanah air Asus Eee PC 904 HD ini akan diluncurkan bersamaan dengan Asus Eee PC 1000. Sayang ia belum mau memberikan kepastian pasti tanggal peluncuran dan juga harganya.
