Briton commits suicide by jumping from crane tower in Kuta, Bali
Posted by |toekang.blog| at 2:45 PMKuta, Bali (ANTARA News) - A British national was found dead at the site of an apartment building project on Jalan Dewi Sri here on Tuesday after jumping from the top of a 35-meter-high crane tower in what police believe was a suicide.
The foreigner, identified as Philip Pocklington (35), had apparently ended his own life after suffering from extreme mental depression, a Kuta police officer who had come to the scene of the incident at the Grand Kuta Apartment construction site said.
The police`s belief was supported by statements from Sandra Ela (27), an Indonesian woman who claimed to be the deceased`s girl-friend.
She said Pocklington who had lived in Bali for the past four years running a tourism-related business had during the past few days often talked about wishing to commit suicide.
"He was a sufferer of chronic insomnia and was planning to go to Australia next month to seek medical treatment. But it turns out he chose to kill himself," she said tearfully.
Sandra said Pocklington left their rented home on Jalan Gunung Sari in Denpasar on Monday by motorcycle and she had been looking for him since then, only to find him dead on Tuesday morning.
Inspector First Class Made Karsa, chief of the Kuta police`s criminal investigation unit, said police were provisionally considering the incident as a case of suicide. Still, a further investigation would be done, including an autopsy at the Sanglah General Hospital to which the Briton`s body was sent.
