Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The building housing the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Jalan Rasuna Said in south Jakarta received a bomb threat on Wednesday forcing the adjournment of an interrogation of a key-witness in the illegal Bank Indonesia (BI or central bank) funds transfer case.
Sri Sembodo, KPK`s security officer, said the Commission was informed about the bomb threat by the Jakarta Metropolitan Police who had at the same time asked everybody in the 8-storey building to evacuate.
After all KPK personnel had left their offices, police officers scoured the building`s floors while a bomb disposal squad had yet to arrive.
The bomb scare interrupted the questioning of Aulia Pohan, a former BI deputy governor, as a witness in the illegal transfer of BI funds to a number of legislators. The KPK had ealier named three BI officials, including BI Governor Burhanuddin Abdullah, as suspects in the case.
Pohan, who is the father-in-law of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono`s eldest son, arrived at the KPK building at about 08:00 in the morning unnoticed by reporters.
KPK spokeman Johan Budi had previously said Pohan would be questioned in the illegal BI funds transfer case as a witness.
Reporters who had been waiting in the KPK building for the conclusion of Pohan`s interrogation were also ordered to leave because of the bomb threat. They moved to premises next to the KPK building.
Johan Budi said apart from Pohan, the KPK would also summon and question a number of other former BI officials, namely former senior deputy governor Anwar Nasution, former deputy governor Aslim Tadjuddin and Bunbunan Hutapea.(*)
