Jakarta, (ANTARA News) - The elected US President Barrack Obama become a sign for a new America and it is good for the world in many sectors, said the ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nation) Secretary General, Dr Surin Pitsuwan, here Thursday.

"It is good for the world and certainly for ASEAN because we too have a new beginning here we have our new charter and era in order to integrate more among ourselves," he said after signing ASEAN and Hubei Province of China cooperation in the ASEAN Secretariat, here.

"There has been some expression of interest on the part of some foreign policy in the campaign, we don't know if the campaign will lead to a real implementation but certainly it's a good sign," he said.

ASEAN have gone thru that before ten years ago and survived, and the solution to the problem in the west now seems to be similar to what ASEAN have adopted in the past and it would be good for ASEAN to work together in order to lead the world for the first time, Surin Pitsuwan said.

"I think it represent a new beginning for America, I think it will be a different America, it will be more understanding and more open America, and will be listening to the partner around the world more,"he said.
