Padang, (ANTARA News) - Alternate power cuts had adversely affected peace and calm and believed also trigger an inrease in crime rate, including theft and snatching in the last couple of months in West Sumatra, and residents had been advised to activate night watch.
Spokesman for West Sumatra Police Adjunct Senior Commissioner Djoko Erwanto said in Padang on Tuesday that the regions of the 19 regencies/cities with the highest crime rate include Padang City, Bukittinggi, Padang Pariaman, Payakumbuh, and Solok.
Djoko said serious thefts and thefts coupled with violence are the most rampant reported by the public.
"Most of the burglary were committed during night when power is off," he said, adding that most crime is committed in quiet and abandoned streets, called street crime.
