Los Angeles (ANTARA News/dpa) - Spurred by thousands of enthusiastic women, the movie debut of hit TV series Sex and the City has broken the box-office record for an adult-rated comedy, according to studio figures released Monday.
Earning 55.7 million dollars over the weekend, the film beat the previous record holder - the raunchy teenage sex comedy American Pie, which earned 45.1 million dollars on its debut.
The movie also boasted the best three-day opening ever for a live-action adaptation
of a TV series, beating Mission: Impossible's 45-million-dollar opening.
The movie stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon, and cost about 65 million dollars to make. (*)
