Beijing (ANTARA News) - Indonesian government sent a medical team of 20 doctors to China on Thursday to help alleviate the misery of earthquake victims in Lanzhao, Gansu province.
"The dispatch of medical team from Indonesia is part of Jakarta`s solidarity with Chinese government, especially the quake victims in the province of Gansu," Indonesian Embassy spokesperson Rosmalawati Khalid said here on Friday.
She said Indonesia originally planned to send 63 doctors to China but only 20 of them were sent in accordance with Chinese government request.
"The Gansu provincial administration has enjoyed medical assistance from Indonesian and Pakistani medical teams who were posted in different locations," Rosmalawati said.
She added that based on a proposal from Gansu provincial disaster mitigation center, Indonesian medical team was posted in Wenxian, Wudu district, while the Pakistan`s was posted in Longnan city.
Wenxian is an area in Gansu province which bore the brunt of the the powerful earthquake that rocked the area on May 12, 2008, killing at least 208 people and injuring more than 4,000 others.
One people was killed and more than 100 others were injured when an aftershock measuring 6 on the Richter scale hit the same area in Wenxian on May 25.
