Medan, N Sumatra (ANTARA News) - The governments of Indonesia and Uzbekistan need to be alert to all kinds of terrorist activities which could harm the two countries, an expert said.

"Terrorist acts that disrupt security in a country must be prevented from happening," international law expert Prof. Dr. Suhaidi told Antara here Wednesday.

Suhaidi made the remark in comment on the 4th meeting of the Bilateral Consultation Committee between Indonesia and Uzbekistan in Medan, North Sumatra, from March 17 to 18, 2008.

The meeting among others discussed matters to set up cooperation between Indonesia and Uzbekistan to overcome terrorism and transnational organized crimes.

The meeting was organized by the Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry.

Suhaidi who is a lecturer at the North Sumatra University`s Law Faculty said the agreement between the two countries to avert terrorism should be hailed.

"Terrorism is not only the enemy of one country but of all countries in the world as well," he said, adding that terrorist acts had destroyed many countries in the world.

"We have to make a concerted efforts to fight terrorist acts to prevent them from destroying more countries," he said.

In cooperation with any country to deal with terrorism, he reminded that Indonesia should not be dictated by others as certain countries purposely create chaos in a country, he said.(*)
